Sharing
How do I share a list?
Open the list and tap the share button in the top right. iOS shows its standard share sheet, where you choose who to invite and how they can take part. Each list is shared separately — sharing one never exposes the others.
How do I make a list view-only?
In the share sheet, set the permission to View only before sending the invitation. You can change it later by opening the share sheet again and tapping a participant. People with view-only access see a View only badge, and the app hides the controls that would change anything.
Someone shared a list with me and nothing happened
Make sure My List is installed before you tap the invitation, and that you are signed in to iCloud. If the link opened a browser instead of the app, install the app and tap the invitation again.
How do I stop sharing?
Open the list, tap the share button, and choose to stop sharing. The list disappears from everyone else's devices and stays on yours.
Syncing
My lists are not syncing between my devices
Check, in order:
- Both devices are signed in to the same Apple Account, in Settings › Apple Account.
- iCloud Drive is on, in Settings › Apple Account › iCloud.
- You have iCloud storage left. Sync stops when your account is full.
- The device has a working network connection. Changes queue up offline and sync when you reconnect.
The Sync section in the app's appearance settings shows what the app currently sees.
Can I use the app without iCloud?
Yes. Everything works on the device, and the app shows On this device in its settings. Sharing and syncing need iCloud, but nothing else does.
Using the app
How do I edit an item?
Tap the item's text. It becomes editable in place — press return, or tap elsewhere, to save. Clearing the text of an item that has no picture removes it.
Can I add a picture?
Yes. Paste one straight into the entry field, or use the photo button beside it to take a new photo or choose an existing image. Pictures are resized before they are stored, so a shared list stays quick to sync.
How do I reorder items?
Press and hold an item, then drag it. Ticked items always sit below unticked ones, so they sink out of the way as you work through the list.
Where are the list actions?
- The circle on the left ticks or unticks every item at once.
- Open the ellipsis menu to clear the whole list, after a confirmation.
- When something is ticked, the same menu offers Remove Checked to remove only completed items.
How do I change the app theme?
Tap the palette button on the main screen. There are six themes, each with a light and dark version, and you can force light or dark rather than following the system. The same theme is used by your widgets and paired Apple Watch.
How do I give one list its own color?
Open an editable list and choose List Color from its options. Pick one of 20 colours, or choose App Theme to inherit the app-wide accent. A list's colour follows it to your other devices, its widget, Apple Watch, and everyone sharing it.
How do list reminders work?
Set an optional reminder while creating a list, or open an existing list's options and choose Reminder. One-off, daily, weekly, and monthly schedules sync with the list, so every participant can be reminded on their own devices. Each person can use Silence on this device without changing the shared schedule for anyone else.
What are the suggestions below the entry field?
Each list remembers items used there and offers useful ones that are not currently on the list. Start typing to filter the suggestions, or tap a chip to add it immediately. Choose Clear suggestions from that list's options whenever you want to erase its history.
